YOU STUCK OUT LIKE A SORE THUMB, MOST BEAUTIFUL SORE THUMB I'D EVER SEEN

I like running with the nike boys. they really take to the streets like a box full of kittens to a catnip curtain. This morning as we took over the sidewalks and assaulted traffic I noticed how wicked cool they all looked dressed identical - from the nike hats to the nike gloves down to their toes - we luv deeeze boyz...and me boppin along in the middle dressed in my standard red and black. Totally looked like I had my own personal entourage of bodyguards :)

The run was pretty fantastic and well needed since I kind of OD'd on cupcakes the night before at a cupcake bday party.

Post run, I headed to bloor to run some errands. As I bopped along with my pretentious espresso bar soy cappuccino and cobs baguette and scones I watched as an old man fed the pigeons. I thought about telling him he shouldn't do that (b/c it teaches them to eat human food and then they start eating garbage which is obviously bad for their bodies and then they poop and it gets into our water and contaminates it and it's just one big vicious cycle - not to mention it teaches many birds that should migrate naturally, to stay put b/c there is 'free' food here, but that's a whole other issue).
I didn't say anything. I'll save the world tomorrow by ordering organic fair trade bird friendly coffee instead.

HOPPIN ON ZACH BRAFF'S EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER

Today I was recruited for a job on Facebook (of all places). They were looking for high energy enthusiastic runners. I think I will fit in just splendidly :)
I'm wicked pumped. and the free running clothes is just the oh so sweet and deliciously creamy icing on the cake. Like the corner piece with the real thick icing!

Also today I had my first needle stick injury. and when i say first, i hope to fuckin god it is my last. luckily it was with a low risk patient and i wasn't too worried about contracting anything - I just felt incompetent. I thought about sticking a bandaid on my finger and keeping my mouth shut. who wants to admit they can't properly dispose of a needle into a sharps container that is sitting right beside them. You hear about it in school and from your colleagues and preceptors. you hear the protocol on what to do. you hear the horror stories of people contracting HIV from one little mistake at work. and you think - that will NEVER be me. I'm careful. competent. skillful. and not an idiot. but in 2 seconds after giving 1000's of IM injections in the past couple weeks my life could've changed.
being in infection control we got the patient's consent to get blood cultures from her and brought them right up to the micro lab to get stat HIV/Hep B/Hep C done. They came back negative, but I still feel terrible about the whole situation. I'm not in for another week, so hopefully people will have forgotten about it by then. I know I won't need any reminders of it...

I CAN BE YOUR HERO BABY!

Last week in Cancun, Mexico, Simon Whitfield claimed his 10th (3rd this year) World Cup at the Cancun BG Triathlon. Even with his new life as "pops" he is having an amazing triathlon season! Simon Whitfield, you amaze me! Cannot wait for the 2008 Beijing Olympics!!

Also last weekend, Paula Radcliffe, fastest marathon woman in the world, shook off rival Gete Wami (who won the Berlin Marathon just 35 days prior)at the New York City Marathon. After training through pregnancy and giving birth last January to a beautiful little girl, Paula pulled ahead at the 25.5 mile mark to win by 23 seconds, in a time of 2:23:09. "I’ve been there so many times,” Radcliffe said. “I was determined it was my turf.”She is unstoppable!
Also, special mention of Robert Cheruiyot, who at one time was homeless and couldn't afford 3 meals a day - he's been rockin the marathon world lately, and just won the World Marathon Majors Award!

My real life pops. "I'm getting a cast put on my foot tomorrow. I'll still be able to bike with it on...I just need to make sure it comes off before Boston". The man who brings true meaning to the words "You'll pass out before you die". If there's one thing in life that he's taught me is to always give my best, don't worry what others think about you and never give up! (i guess that's three things...but who's counting?)

And, last, but definitely not least, Katie Kirkpatrick. Not the first time she's been profiled on A day in the life.. as favored in an upcoming race...KK will take off from the start line of the Vancouver 1/2 Marathon in less than 2 weeks with the entire Country cheering her on from Coast-to-Coast.

Keep the wind at your back :)

I BELIEVE IN THE GOOD LIFE...

Overall, I'm a happy effervescent gal. my life is, and has been, both good and bad.

here's my self-absorbed top 6 list to sum up 11748 days in the life of pdawg (i like even numbers)

The absolute best of the best (in no particular order)

- finishing my first marathon and having my dad waiting for me at the finish line
- jumping out of a flying plane
- getting my first 100% on a university midterm
- watching open heart surgery
- getting to know my grandparents better
- 12+ hour study days with my girls and mocha dates and trottin home through the snow...those days always brought out the best top 10 lists

Moments I could do without

- casually wiping the snot off my face at the gym as I run into my latest crush
- breaking up with my first love
- crying in the middle of the library the night before a midterm
- being left
- losing friends too soon
- doubting myself

SMILE LIKE YOU MEAN IT...
