HOPPIN ON ZACH BRAFF'S EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER

Today I was recruited for a job on Facebook (of all places). They were looking for high energy enthusiastic runners. I think I will fit in just splendidly :)
I'm wicked pumped. and the free running clothes is just the oh so sweet and deliciously creamy icing on the cake. Like the corner piece with the real thick icing!

Also today I had my first needle stick injury. and when i say first, i hope to fuckin god it is my last. luckily it was with a low risk patient and i wasn't too worried about contracting anything - I just felt incompetent. I thought about sticking a bandaid on my finger and keeping my mouth shut. who wants to admit they can't properly dispose of a needle into a sharps container that is sitting right beside them. You hear about it in school and from your colleagues and preceptors. you hear the protocol on what to do. you hear the horror stories of people contracting HIV from one little mistake at work. and you think - that will NEVER be me. I'm careful. competent. skillful. and not an idiot. but in 2 seconds after giving 1000's of IM injections in the past couple weeks my life could've changed.
being in infection control we got the patient's consent to get blood cultures from her and brought them right up to the micro lab to get stat HIV/Hep B/Hep C done. They came back negative, but I still feel terrible about the whole situation. I'm not in for another week, so hopefully people will have forgotten about it by then. I know I won't need any reminders of it...

My last day at the IWK I said to a family "ooh, he is cute, what is his name". I got a sore look. Turns out the baby was a girl.

I also make mistakes.

It'd be good if I figure out how to tell a boy from a girl before I get to the NICU.

not to minimize carrie, but i think calling a baby the wrong gender isn't quite as serious as sticking a used needled into your hand...

start making bigger mistakes so i can compare with you!

/are you pregnant?
No!
oh, just kinda looked like you were...

ps. refer to the baby as it until you 've had a chance to read the chart :P they all look the same at 24 weeks...

what will you do if you get a baby born with both...?
