IT'S NOT THAT I DON'T LIKE YOU

Tonight while walking home from a long day at the hospital, when nearing the corner near my house, I came close to tripping over a guy laying on the sidewalk. My first initial reaction was to think, damn homeless people always in my way!. Then I did a double take and the dude didn't look so good. In fact he didn't even look alive. Eyes rolled back in his head, foam at the mouth, arms outstretched, unmoving. So I stopped and looked around. A young couple said, 'it's OK, we're calling'- as if to say, we've got it all under control. Not wanting to seem like a curious bystander I kept walking.

As I walked away, I couldn't help but wonder, and still wonder, if I shouldn't have asked them if they'd checked for a pulse or anything. What if he needed CPR while waiting for the ambulance - If that is who the young couple was in fact calling. What if. What if...
