In a city filled with stiletto shoes, power suits and subway cars, there exists a well hidden world of running.
This morning I set out in my "superhero" attire, spandex, fuel belt and sunglasses. I got a strange look from the guy in the elevator, but that's ok, I was too excited to set out on my run to care. While running I discovered that the city isn't really as unfriendly as people say. Runners are very friendly people and I seen a lot of runners today. Most nodded as we crossed paths, some waved, some gave a thumbs up and some sprinted by me without a word. Even the homeless people cheered me on as I ran/wobbled on by them!! Not really knowing where I was going I went up Dupont, down Young, across Queen, back down Young until I found some runners ahead of me that seemed to know where they were going, so I stalked/drafted them for awhile and ended up in a beautiful area right by the water and the CN Tower/SkyDome filled with paved pathways for bikes and runners. I had no idea there were so many cyclists and runners in the city. Well I guess I did, but I didn't expect to see so many people out. And among all those runners I even seen Lilly Binns from little old PEI!!! What a small world.
So I discovered today that running in the maritimes isn't really all that different from running in Toronto. The only differences I think of now is there is more concrete and you have search for parks to run in (or in my case stalk fellow runners) and instead of getting home with red dirt sprinkled around my ankles, I have grey concrete/cementy looking ankles. I still love it though!
