FARTLEKS COMING OUT MY YASSO...SAY WHA?!

(You wouldn't get it, it's a running term...)

Didn't I read that on a T-shirt somewhere?

So yea, I've been running lots (~190K last month) getting ready for the big marathon. The pressure is building...from all sides of the Country. Today as I ran with the big boys I reminisced about the good old days in high school...get home, scarf down a biscuit, bandage up my feet and pulled on my old "lucky" champion t-shirt that is slighty tighter than it was in high school, much more faded and much holier...but still feels great. Laced up my sneaks and joined the boys at the track. We even ran 1600s (which was my race distance in high school)...a little bit slower these days, but hey, I wasn't training for a marathon back then :P Anyways, it was blissful...all I needed was Savage Garden on my ipod and my coach yelling my splits to be wearing bright orange and I'd think i'd gone back in time!

So that was my evening...in keeping with the theme of the blog (day in the life...) lets get on with my day. So I've started a new job. An unpaid job. Well technically it's clinical for school, but it feels like a job very much. Mostly b/c I am there by myself (aside from my co-workers) w/o any other students or faculty members. Makes me feel like a big girl :) If only I was making big girl money :S Soo...this morning I wake up in plenty of time, snack on a bagel as I check the morning news (i.e. Facebook) decide it's time to leave and start strolling downtown in my new cutie red and white polka dot shoes...When I get about 1/2 way to the hospital I realized the day before I mentioned that I would be arriving at 8:30, NOT 9:00...Yikes, I was already late! So I picked up the pace to a fast-business-like-trot...arrived 15 minutes late, ankles bleeding from the shoes...not wanting to draw attention to my lateness I came in quietly, apologized for being a lil late and stood there chatting nonchalantly, bleeding heels and all. I took one 5 minute break the whole day, b/c I didn't want anyone to think I was slacking, even though I just sat at my computer pretending to read a powerpoint on antibiotics. Tomorrow and next week I'm going to start working on a project - mission: to save the world from bugs one hang washing at a time....or something like that. I wonder if working for the government is anything like this? I also spent a few good hours stuffing envelops and stapling them to pay stubs. You know what's really weird about the whole thing though, is that I actually like it and look forward to going tomorrow! My only dilemma is which shoes to wear. My soles hurt from my first day wearing heels and my ankles are torn up from my second day wearing flats. Ohh the life of a working gal.

Peace out yo.
